JASON COLLINS: Not Everyone's Supporting Him

While most of the sports world has been supportive of Washington Wizard's center Jason Collins' decision to come out of the closet, not everyone is co-signing the historic move.

Among the first to question Collin's declaration was Miami Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace, who tweeted, “All these beautiful women in the world and guys want to mess with other guys...smh [shaking my head].” Five minutes later, he tweeted: “I’m not bashing anybody don’t have anything against anyone. I just don’t understand it,” before quickly deleting both tweets.

The Dolphins still disavowed his statements, writing, “Mike Wallace has apologized for his comments, and we have addressed the matter with him. Mike’s comments do not reflect the views of the Miami Dolphins. We believe in a culture of inclusiveness and respect, and any statements to the contrary are in no way acceptable to our organization."

Also feeling the heat was ESPN the Magazine writer Chris Broussard. Appearing on ESPN’S Outside the Lines in a conversation with openly gay correspondent L.Z. Granderson, Broussard said, “If you're openly living that type of lifestyle, the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that that's a sin," adding that, "If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ."

Broussard also suggested that he was not alone in his sentiments, saying,"A lot of people understand that it's a politically correct climate. I've had some players say that they would be uncomfortable with a gay player in the locker room … but no one is going to necessarily come out and say anything. ... If he doesn't get signed next year, it probably won't be because he came out as gay. He's towards the end of his career and not that good anymore."

CBS Sports commentator Tim Brando also jumped into the mix, saying, “On the topic of Jason Collins I really don't care and frankly why should anyone else. The HERO worship is out of bounds. I'm glad he is happy. I'm hearing Collins is a HERO because he made history! OK as a Sports Commentator if I make a SEX tape is that history?"

Collins will address his supporters and detractors Tuesday morning during an interview on Good Morning America
