3 Marines Killed At Officer Candidate School Murder-Suicide Shooting At Quantico

A U.S. Marine shot himself at Quantico, the nation’s elite training facility, after allegedly gunning down two other Marines late Thursday, authorities said.

The incident began around 11 p.m. at the Officer Candidate School, according to a press release issued by the base. That is when the gunman, who has not been identified, is believed to have shot one person.

The shooter then barricaded himself inside the barracks at the base.

Authorities moved in early Friday to discover the gunman was dead after apparently shooting himself, according to Lt. Agustin Solivan. The body of a female Marine was also discovered.

The identities of the victims have not been released, but authorities said the gunman was believed to be a staff member of the officer candidate school.

Solivan said the shooting was an isolated incident and authorities were confident there were no other casualties. The base was put on lockdown after the shooting but it has since been lifted.

Marine Base Quantico, located nearly 40 miles south of Washington, D.C. and known as the “Crossroads of the Marine Corps”, houses the training facilities for the FBI and the DEA. It is also home to the Marine Corps Research Center and a military prison.
