Wolfson High vigil honors student slain in Jacksonville shooting allegedly over loud music

JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- The family and friends of a 17-year-old high school student shot in a dispute reportedly over loud music gathered at his school for a vigil Tuesday morning.

Jordan Davis' father, Ron Davis, said it was a touching sight to see teenagers lay their book bags on the floor and gather around the Wolfson High School flag pole to remember their friend. Not only is Jordan's family mourning his loss, but the entire Wolfson High School is sharing their grief.

Jordan did not grow up going to school in Jacksonville. He moved here from Atlanta to live with his Dad two years ago, and in that short amount of time, his father said he won a lot of hearts.

"A lot have come over to the house and had sleepovers and they were truly victims also because they lost a great friend and they loved him and that really touched my heart," said Ron Davis, Jordan's father.

On Friday, Davis lost his life after he was shot twice in what police say was a dispute over loud music at a Southside gas station. At Wolfson on Tuesday, the first day back from Thanksgiving break, friends say one very special student was missing.

"He was one of these people that when you were out and you came out to the hallway you would always see him and he was always like playing around so he brought life to the hallways. He brought life to the school and just not seeing him is really hard," said Neci McMorris, a senior at Wolfson High and Jordan's friend.

Davis said he wanted to be a part of the vigil to show Jordan's friends that he also supports them and that they are all grieving together.

"I just want to let them know that when they become adults, which is going to be very soon, to remember this day and remember what it stands for, and the gun violence has to stop," said Davis.

Two of those eight or nine bullets that police say were fired by 45-year-old Michael Dunn of Satellite Beach struck Jordan. Monday afternoon Dunn pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder in Brevard County court.

His friends say Jordan was a nice and sweet guy and they are shocked that this happened.

"I met him on my bus actually and he was always like a good kid, he wasn't like a troublemaker or nothing like that so it's like surprising what happened with him," said Chelsea Rutledge, a senior at Wolfson High School.

Jordan's friends won't get to graduate with him now and his father is heartbroken about all the things his son was looking forward to.

"I was looking forward to as a parent to being there when he got married, being there when he found love, all the things that I'm not going to be able to do is what pains me," said Davis.
