Controversy has erupted about The Breast Milk Baby doll, which makes suckling sounds if prompted by sensors in a special halter top that can be worn by the make-believe mom to simulate breastfeeding.
FOX News' Bill O'Reilly is one of those outraged by the doll, which is made by Berjuan Toys of Spain. O'Reilly said on his show, "I just want kids to be kids. And this kind of stuff. We don't need this."
However, Dennis Lewis, the U.S. representative for Berjuan says, "We've had a lot of support from lots of breastfeeding organizations, lots of mothers, lots of educators. There also has been a lot of blowback from people who maybe haven't thought to think about really why the doll is there and what its purpose is. Usually they are people that either have problems with breastfeeding in general, or they see it as something sexual."
The company has had a hard time getting the dolls in stores in the U.S. because of fear of the controversy, but they are available on the Berjuan website for half-off their original $89 price tag.
