The outer edges of New York City were hit by two tornadoes on Saturday. They made a mess and knocked out power, but no serious injuries were reported.
At one time, tornadoes were rare in New York, but they've hit the area on a more regular basis in recent years. There was a small tornado last month and in September 2010, two tornadoes knocked over thousands of trees and blew the roofs off dwellings in Queens and Brooklyn.
This time around, a twister hit the Breezy Point neighborhood in Queens, while the second one hit the Canarsie area of Brooklyn. According to the National Weather Service, the winds got up to 110 miles per hour and damaged several homes and trees.
