11 Year Hendersonville Girl Shot Dead: Father Charged

A man has been charged in the shooting death of his 11-year-old daughter in Sumner County.

The incident happened before 3:30 p.m. yesterday at a home on Shady View Drive in Hendersonville.

Officials with Hendersonville Police said 29-year-old Timothy Batts took his daughter, Timea, to an area hospital and said that she had been shot.

She was airlifted to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where she died about an hour later.

Batts reportedly told police the shooting happened after she got off the school bus.

However, police executed a search warrant inside the home and determined the shooting happened at the residence.

Batts has been charged with reckless homicide, tampering with evidence, false reporting and felon in possession of a firearm. He was held on a $1 million bond.

Timea, a student at Knox Doss Middle School, had just attended her first day of school earlier that day.
