With specific regard to the Audiolab 6000A (manual easily viewable online) are you stating that, by using it as a PRE, the DAC is not available to use in an 6000A'PRE'/8300XP setup? Verdict. The 8300CD remains a useful machine and a capable, polished performer. But in improving certain aspects of the sound, Audiolab has diluted a bit of the earlier player's sonic magic. The move up in price to £1000 hasn't helped its cause either. Put it all together, and four stars seems fair. To this specification the new 8300CDQ adds high-quality analogue preamp circuitry, coupled to three stereo pairs of line-level RCA inputs to connect analogue sources. The preamp circuitry is kept as simple as possible using high-quality components to maintain signal purity, with line input signals passing to a precision analogue volume stage. Connectivity is excellent with 1x USB for a computer source, 1x USB for an i-Device, 2x coaxial, 2x optical and AES/EBU inputs. Outputs are available in cinch and XLR. There's a proper IEC inlet that is spaced such that it allows for the beefiest of connectors. The M-DAC+ processes audio data up to 32-bit/384kHz via USB and offers 1 standby press to bring the unit in/out of standby 2 move to next menu page or setting 3 vol- press to decrease volume 4 xlr press to select xlr input 5 phono press to select phono input 6 video press to select video input 7 tuner press to select tuner input 8 display press to cycle … Whatever the source and application, the 8300CDQ is guaranteed to sound impressive. Thanks to its ESS DAC with Hyperstream Modulator, balanced pre-amp design and use of quality components throughout the audio chain, the player always sounds smooth, precise and natural. Sleek,
