DRESSING YOUR AGE: 10 THINGS YOU MIGHT NEED TO RETIRE...OR GIVE TO YOUR NIECE!!

It's a sad fact -- but eventually you might have to face the fact that too-tight tank tops and super low-rise jeans are just too young looking for you.

Here are 10 items you might want to think about putting back in the closet ... or donating to your daughter or niece!

1. Message T-Shirts

  • Retail Retirement Age: 30
  • Why: The freedom to express yourself via T-shirt is part of the teen and 20-something years ...

2. Too-Trendy Denim

  • Retail Retirement Age: 35
  • Why: If your jeans are super-low-rise, torn, distressed, or embellished with rhinestones or embroidery on the pockets go outside and light a bonfire now. You're just too old to wear them.

3. Costume Shoes

  • Retail Retirement Age: Mid-40s
  • Why: 40-somethings will look fresher without the trendy cork wedges, thigh-high boots or up-to-the-knee Gladiator sandals.

4. Micro-mini Skirts

  • Retail Retirement Age: 40
  • Why: You gotta know your strenths -- and your limitations ... Age appropriateness in fashion is partially determined by who you are and what you do -- so yes, Tina Turner can wear micro-minis on stage that the rest of us would look ridiculous in.

5. Anything Showing Excessive Cleavage

  • Retail Retirement Age: 50
  • Why: An older woman shouldn't feel she needs to show it all off. Anything below the middle of your bustline has got to go.

6. White, Ribbed Cotton Tank Tops

  • Retail Retirement Age: 40
  • Why: Frankly, what looks good on the stars of Gossip Girl may not work on you.

7. Hair Gadgets

  • Retail Retirement Age: 30
  • Why: Whether it's flowery scrunchies, banana clips or your daughter's plastic kiddie barrettes, playful hair accessories are not fitting for a grown woman.

8. Oversized, Overly-Decorated Hobo Bags

  • Retail Retirement Age: 50
  • Why: Open any magazine, and you'll see tiny celebrities toting enormous handbags -- the skinnier the star, the bigger the bag, it seems. Well, don't follow this trend.

9. Cheap, Unflattering Underwear

  • Retail Retirement Age: 40
  • Why: The more your body begins to sag, the more you need good-quality, well-fitting undergarments.

10. Loud Accessories

  • Retail Retirement Age: 35
  • Why: The rubber bracelets, studded belts, zebra purses and plastic earrings proclaim to the world that you're still trendy. OK -- but you can look hip without looking like a teenager.

OMG!!!!
You are so right on all ten reasons. I would like to add also, that it is not always an issue on how old a woman is and what she need to wear because of her age. There are so many seasoned (older) ladies that don't look their age that can get away with wearing some of the fashions that the younger ladies wear and can "Rock" it. So it is not always what you wear is how you wear it and can you make it work for you. There are some young ladies that wear things that don't look good on them, depending on shape, size and body type. Fashions are not Labeled by age, but it's what you can wear and how it looks on you. A woman that knows how to dress will use her character and maturity and she will not wear any thing that want bring out the type of woman she is. Young women also need to learn what and what not to wear............
I agree MsVee! It's all in how you rock it!
#11. If your over a certain weight or age under no circumstances should you ever....ever,ever put on a pair of tights.
Lots of people have big behinds but if it ain't in shape and it looks more like a bag of wet laundry you need to give it up. Just stick to wearing skirts down passed your knees and pants...Please!!!
