Dan Rather, Pres. Obama, and WATERMELONS
Dan Rather is the latest person to make a racist comment about President Obama. Apparently Dan Rather's comment that "Obama couldn't sell a watermelon," is now what we consider racist. I suppose maybe it is.
I guess watermelon is somehow derogatory when said in conjunction with a black person. I think maybe it is a stereotype about the type of food people like to eat. However, don't most of us like watermelon? Do black people have a history of selling watermelon?
I would rather think that Dan Rather made a mistake rather than that he is a racist. He hasn't seemed to appear racist in the past from what I know of him. Have you heard Dan Rather say other racist remarks in the past?

It definitely was a racist comment, although I've never associated Dan Rather as being a racist. Do other races eat watermelon? Of Course! But because of this countries history, there certain things by certain people, that should never be uttered.
