The Nashville premiere of this funny and poignant tribute to church hats and the African American women for whom they are both symbolic crowns and a means to express themselves -- their pride, their beauty, their endurance -- in the presence of God. One of the most popular theater productions ever mounted at the famed Arena Stage in Washington, DC is getting ready for a its first appearance in Nashville. 

Co-directed by the acclaimed director Ted Swindley of Always...Patsy Cline fame and equally talented Mary McCallum, well known for her award-winning play and film, The 70% Club,  the show features a vibrant local cast of Theola Futch, Tamiko Robinson, Dajuana Hammond, CJ Jordan, La Toya Gardner, Naeaidria Callihan and Nick Oldham.  Randy Craft is musical director.

CROWNS tells the story of a young girl from Brooklyn who moves South to live with her aunts, a charismatic bunch of church-going ladies, who share their lives, their hats and some good Southern religion with their niece through gospel songs and tales from their lives.
